First Family Wars seem to be hitting the climax as First son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba who is also the Commander of Defense Forces (CDF) has accused his brother-in-law Mr. Odrek Rwabwogo who doubles as the president advisor as the biggest thief in the country.
General Muhoozi made these accusations on a popular social media site X formerly known as Twitter on August 16th while commenting about current affairs in the country and alleged harassment of his supporters by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) a party that his father and the president of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni heads.
Muhoozi’s comments are as a result of dissatisfaction that he received with the arrest of Hon. Michael Mawanda in June 2024 on allegations of corruption and mismanagement of public funds.
Muhoozi says that the arrest of Michael Mawanda is politically orchestrated by some members in the NRM critical of his support for Gen. Muhoozi who is preparing to succeed his father as the president of Uganda.
“Michael Mawanda, is a political prisoner. He was taken to prison by some politically dilapitated people in NRM for the ‘great crime’ of supporting Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Bushenyi. That’s his only crime. Supporting me. Free Mawanda!” Muhoozi tweeted on August 15th 2024.
In subsequent tweets, he promised not to keep quiet about his friend being in prison before coming out to question his father why he arrests Hon. Mawanda on allegations of Corruption and then pauses in a photo with “the biggest thief in Uganda” a tweet that was a caption of a photo of Mr. Odrek Rwabogo and President Museveni.
Muhoozi later deleted the post after it caused a lot of controversy but never recalled the words he said or apologized for the tweet.
Odrek Rwabwogo who is the husband of President Museveni’s daughter Pastor Patience Rwabogo, hasn’t responded yet, although his followers who call themselves “The Disciples of Odrek Rwabwogo” issued a statement on August 17th dismissing the allegations of Gen Muhoozi as ‘unfounded’ and ‘malicious’, describing Muhoozi as ‘an Irrational coward suffering from extreme sense of entitlement’.
Ugandans are left wondering whether the battle between the two are Games of Thrones as they have both been rumored to be potential successors of President Yoweri Museveni.
